The Office of the Fire Marshal is overseen by Gene Robertson and is tasked with Public Fire Prevention and Community Risk Reduction. Some of the programs that are a part of the Office of the Fire Marshal are:
Administering fire prevention inspection program for the department.
Assists fire department personnel with commercial business inspections.
Performs plan review for all new commercial and existing commercial remodel construction.
Provides an education medium for community groups, schools and other organizations.
Administers the Fire Department Smoke Detector Program.
Administers the Fire Department Juvenile Firesetter Intervention program.
The Garden City Fire Department administers fire and life safety inspections, as well as plan review, under the 2018 International Code Council codes as well as references the NFPA codes and standards as the apply to fire and life safety. In September 2019, the City of Garden City adopted Ordinance 2849-2019, to which all fire and building codes apply.
